Basic Information

All services begin with the completion of a questionnaire and a free 30 minute consultation.  You will receive a detailed research plan and a contract that consists of an outline of the work to be performed, the time frame in which the work will be performed, an outline of fees, and an estimate of possible extra charges that may be incurred (see Additional Costs below).  In most cases, for work to begin you will need to pay for at least one hour of time and sign and return the research plan and contract.  Please see the individual services for hourly rates and additional information on retainers and minimum hours.  All payments are made through PayPal.

Research Locations and Travel

As a member of many genealogical resources, I have access to many repositories and long-distance travel is not usually necessary to complete the research required.  If on-site research is required, I can travel easily to the following counties in North Central Florida – Alachua, Bradford, Clay, Columbia, Gilchrist, Levy, Marion, Putnam, Suwannee and Union.  It is possible that I will travel to other locations, but only if it is deemed necessary and pre-approved by the client.  Any mileage or travel fees are not included in the fees listed for individual services.

Additional Costs

There may be additional costs required to complete your research that are not included in the fees listed.  These costs can include items such as, document ordering fees, photocopies, microfilm rental, postage or mileage.  You will be notified of any additional costs in advance, which will be billed separately and must be paid before the work can be delivered.

Research Limitations

My primary areas of research are within the United States; however I do have experience in researching western European and Scandinavian records – specifically, the United Kingdom, Ireland and Sweden.  If an adoption is involved, please be aware that these records can be difficult or impossible to obtain.  If this is the case, I will contact you to discuss what your options are and how you would like to proceed.

Guarantees

You are paying for my time and attention to your research needs and I guarantee thorough and detailed work.  Because of variables that can limit success (time allotted, common surnames, time period and place, records availability), I cannot predict or guarantee a specific document or result.  If little or no information is available, I will contact you to discuss your options and how you would like to proceed.

If you wish to publish the information provided to you in your own genealogical research, please be aware that I am the owner of any narrative material and my written permission will be required (and most likely given!).  In turn, I will also not reproduce or publish the information provided to you without your written permission.

Confidentiality and Ethics

I will hold confidential any information you provide and any information that is found through my research that is not already a matter of public record or public knowledge. I will treat with discretion, even if they are already matters of public record, issues that concern living persons, their parents, or immediate families. I will perform this work in accordance with the prevailing standards in genealogy, including the Code of Ethics of the Board for Certification of Genealogists and the Code of Ethics of the Association of Professional Genealogists.
