Welcome to the Rootyard Porter!
The Rootyard Porter has been born out of my studies in genealogy, history and story-telling. This is where I’m recording my journeys in research and thoughts on the interconnectedness of these areas, as well as a vehicle to offer my services to others interested in their roots.
What is a Rootyard and who is a Porter?
To me, the Rootyard is sort of like a boneyard but is not just a place for deceased individuals. Our roots are not just about who we came from, but also what we came from. The Rootyard represents not just a place for those that came before us, but the roots we have in everything.
A porter is an assistant, of sorts, and can serve as a gatekeeper, “a doorman…or guard posted at the entrance of a building“. This seems apt to me, as I hope to serve as a humble guide to lead you through the Rootyard.
